There are so many reasons to do it! Are you ready ?

One Day at a Time!

One day at a time is a life saver. I don’t have to know how everything is going to turn out. I just have to breathe. I don’t really have to do that! It just happens. Wow, that is all I do, just breathe. If I do nothing else then I am still OK.

The great thing is, I don’t have to do anything. Nothing has the “have to” prefix, for me. Absolutely nothing! If I think I have to do something, I just change the wording for a more positive result. For example, if I think “I have to do something”, being mindful, I am aware I’m thinking that and I stop and make an adjustment to “I want to do it”. It works! I know what you’re thinking. What if I really, REALLY don’t want to do it? Guess what? I just don’t do it. Problem solved. I know there are people reading this who are thinking that it is unreasonable to just “not do” something that might be very important to me so I say again. The other option is to change the wording to, “I want to do it”. It works. It’s really not that complicated.

I want to face the obstacles in my life!

Either I am able to change the wording to create a more positive feeling, or I don’t do it. The key is to be mindful and vigilant so I can catch myself in the moment. One Day at a Time!

What would I do if I couldn’t fly?

August 25th, marks 54 years since I was born. I have learned to adjust my life to fit my growing needs. How do you like that for positive thinking? Anyway, on to the subject of flying. I have spent my life working out and playing. One of my favorite things to do is low-level flying. Low-level flying is flight without assistance. It still feels like flying but there is no need for aircraft. Frisbee throwing and catching, jumping over fire and running down mountains are a couple of ways I love to fly.

As I get more experienced, I find that I need maintenance in order to be able to keep my flight status. Three things have become a daily treatment for my physical health.

One, I stretch out on a daily basis This is something I have learned is necessary in the last few years.

Two, I roll out on the foam roller. The foam roller massages and releases my muscles and the fascia around them. This is critical to my flexibility.

Three, I use a Foot Rubz ball to massage my feet.

I Live!

One thing “Time” always does,

Whatever “is” becomes what “was”

Remember the Thundering of last Thursday?

Today as my day begins I look back on the week.

So much has happened that I am reeling from the changes.

That’s why I try to enjoy life in each moment, remember to breathe, and live now!

I start today with a full heart and an empty mind. Anything is possible and everything is new.

Decision

“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.”

Often attributed to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, upon further investigation, it seems it was actually written by, William Hutchinson Murray. I don’t care who wrote it, I LIKE IT!

Loss

Today I’m thinking about “loss” in a different way. I feel a sense of loss today that I can live with. It starts out feeling empty and for a moment it hurts. If I am still, that moment passes. If I don’t try to hold onto it, it goes rather quickly. On the other hand, if I want to keep that feeling of loss, I can create attachments that keep it with me. For example, I feel the loss of a relationship and it hurts for a moment. That feeling is sadness in my gut. I begin to cry and that experience starts to tell me things like I’m losing a part of myself, I’m never going to have another relationship, I will be so alone, I have failed. I ask myself, what have I done to deserve this. That kind of reaction will undoubtedly create more pain and sadness.

But, as I said, I am experiencing loss in a different way today. It’s more like this; I am feeling sadness over the change in my relationship, I breathe and start to cry. Crying is, in my opinion, one of they truest forms of expression there is, so I am going to enjoy this cry. My heart is full, not empty, if I am crying. It feels full! I am letting out the pain of this loss. Is it pain? Yes, it hurts. I feel suddenly alone. Wait. I like being alone. I do. It allows me to reflect on the beauty of my life, which, if I look back at it I realize that the challenges I have faced in my life have always forced me to grow in ways I otherwise might never have. Now that feels less sad. In fact the feeling I now have is gratitude. I am grateful for all of the sad times and the losses in my life because they have given me growth. I have grown considerably over the course of my life, but never as much as when I have been hurting. I am grateful.

This is a true story. Life isn’t good, or bad. Life is Life. How I choose to experience life dictates the quality of my life. Deepak Chopra has a quote I use to remind me of this. “Because I accept life as life, in my world, nothing ever goes wrong.” I am grateful today. I am happy.Image

Sunday Fun-day

A friend recently commented on my Facebook page, saying that it was cool, and working out looks fun! Who would have thought? I would! Of course working out is fun. I get to move my body in an excited way to accomplish different activities all the while increasing my heart rate and respiration, sweating up a storm and expending calories and energy. That sounds like…well fun! Anyway, that comment made me realize that not everyone thinks working out is fun. So, check out these pics of fun workouts. I hope you are inspired to get out on this Fun-day Sunday and work out too. remember, it can be fun!

T.G.I.F.F.

Thank goodness it’s Flying Friday! I got to tell you, I’ve been looking forward to posting this for a while now. After a day of rest on Thundering Thursday, I am ready to fly high into today’s workout. I feel as though I can leap over any obstacle in my path. Why? Because I try. That’s really all it takes. Go for it. Sometimes I notice I’m feeling afraid of an event or situation that I’m approaching. I’ve recently decided to turn things around on “Fear”. Here is my new idea. I’m going to use “Fear” to my advantage and every time I realize I’m feeling “Fear”, I’m going to remind myself that “Fear” stands for “Feeling Energized and Ready”. Done! So go out and have some “Fear” on me. Enjoy!

Flying high over fear!

Rest and Recover

I work out very frequently. Sometimes I go for days on end working out every day. So when I get that feeling that I just need to sit, I do. Today is Thundering Thursday. I sat and experienced a beautiful thunderstorm from my window. Just sitting and breathing. Sometimes you the best workout is one that you don’t do. Take a day off. Enjoy!

Hammies!

Ever try to strengthen your hamstrings without weights? Here is a good exercise for hamstrings. Not only does it really challenge your hamstrings, but it works your glutes and core at the same time. Now, that’s my kind of exercise!

Ok, so for starters, get a 55 centimeter physio-ball and lie down on the floor with it. Put your heels and ankles on the ball and lift up into a bridge from shoulders to feet. Remember, the ball’s job is to throw you down on the floor. Don’t let it! Be ready! Once you get your balance, begin bending your knees and pulling the ball toward you.

Try to push your hips up as high as you can while pulling your feet and the ball in as far as you can. Then slowly return to the start position, but don’t go all the way down to the floor.

Start with a couple of reps if it’s very difficult. Keep practicing until you can do it for at least 15 reps, at least 2 sets.

Fun, huh?

Now, you must stretch your hamstrings every day. If you don’t have a trainer to do it for you, go to the bottom of the page and click on the link to the Stretch out Strap and buy one. You will thank me for it. It is an indispensable tool for stretching. And it’s cheap too.

Try harder Tuesdays!

Slipping up the hill, dragging the rock. Trying no matter how hard it is to pull yourself up the mountain of life, is what it’s all about. Find the joy in hard work! That’s the secret.

You’re welcome.

Stretch out strap

Wow, I would be seriously hurtin’ if it weren’t for my stretch out strap. There is no better way to get a hamstring stretch than this. Unless you have a trainer do it for you. This simple inexpensive tool has many uses, but hamstring stretching with it makes it worth ten times the cost. Scroll down and click on the picture at the bottom of the page and get yours. You’ll thank me for it.

What is the foam roller for?

Well, it’s funny you asked. I was just using mine and I thought “How do people do without some sort of massage treatment on a regular basis?”

My own personal exercise routine and active lifestyle, require a good amount of stretching and massage in order to keep me flexible. It’s not only for feeling good, but for functioning effectively on a daily basis.

A few years ago, I was diving for a Frisbee when I pulled something in my neck. I slammed the ground really hard, but that didn’t seem so unusual to me until the next day. I woke up to some tingling in my fingers and a real pain in the neck.

As soon as I could, I got to the doctor who sent me for an MRI. Upon reading the MRI, I discovered that I had some bulging discs in my neck. A few muscle relaxers and some anti-inflammatory medicine quickly took care of the pain and tingling. Another visit to the doctor and I was reassured that the bulging discs had been there for a long time and it was actually good luck to have had the minor injury resulting from the Frisbee dive, because now I knew what was going on in my neck.

The end result was that I had to take some time off working out. Each time I returned to my workouts, I was OK for a while, but as I got stronger and began lifting more and more weight, I began having back spasms and constant pain. I was feeling sad and wondering if I was going to have to find another profession.

As a last resort, I went to a sports chiropractor and learned a very valuable lesson. The treatment I received was based on massage and stretching. I had a revelation! I needed to stretch!

And so began a new chapter in my life. Stretching and massage with the foam roller became a part of my daily routine. Relief was immediate. I purchased a foam roller and instruction book on Amazon. It was life changing. Now, as part of my daily routine, I stretch and roll. It’s a nice way to relax after a workout or just wind down at the end of the day. I’ve even incorporated rolling into my daily meditation, but that’s another story for another time.

Do yourself a favor and click on the roller on this page and begin a new chapter in your own personal self- care. Enjoy.
