The summer of 67

This is the summer I will turn 67. Collecting Social Security, playing the saxophone and stand-up comedy, open mics. Well that’s not all. Today in the 90 degree heat and humidity, I went to my favorite spot in Central Park and hit the pullup bars. I did ten sets, totaling 110 pullups. Man I love this weather!!

60 Days in the Making. Can you tell?

The first two pics are 142lbs. 9.0% bodyfat! Bam! Looking good.

These photos below are after 60 days of eating more and heavy weightlifting. 148 lbs. and 10.5% bodyfat. I gained 2 lbs. of fat and 4 lbs. of muscle. Doesn’t feel as good to me. Hmmmm, I think I like the before photos better! How about you?

2024 and there’s so much more! Building muscle at 65! 5 years after a total shoulder replacement.

Can you see the difference? No, probably not. I am always about the same weight and bodyfat. I fluxuate from 141 pounds to about 147 at the most. About 9% bodyfat to around 11%. So now I’m going to see if it’s possible to eat more and put on muscle. For a month, I’m not going to do cardio every day, and I’m going to take actual rest days. That’s right, I am going from working out every day, to just doing weight training 4 times a week. Wish me luck. Can you build muscle after a total shoulder replacement? At 65? We are about to find out!

The Crux

2024 Who cares about the date? I don’t, but… I do care about this moment. This moment contains all I need to know. I have spent a lifetime trying to fill the me shaped hole inside of me. As I write this, I see how ridiculous this sounds. The crux of the matter is the realization that I am enough!

What’s my secret? At 65 most people retire. I’m just getting started!

There are some things you should know if you want to stay in shape as you get older.

  1. Get in shape now. In order to stay in shape, first you have to be in shape. Do it now!
  2. If you start now, you will get better.
  3. If you wait you won’t.
  4. There’s more, just ask…..

Fitness questions asked over and over again. What’s the best way to burn fat? Watch this for some really great info. And above all, consistency is the key. Keep moving!

Alive and ready to thrive, now that I’m 65.

WTF?! This guy’s not 65! Well, at least on the inside. Hey everyone, I did it! Made it to medicare. Hahaha! What a joke. Anyway, I’m still alive at 65. I like to take things “One day at at time”, so I don’t put too much thought into birthdays and holidays. Every day is a holiday for me. I’m lucky to be alive. (For a number of reasons) I don’t wait for holidays or birthdays to celebrate. I do it all the time. So, I’m celebrating the end of my 65th year alive. Now. Right now! That’s all we got “Right here, right now” Love yourself!!

Time To Get Serious. 65 is right around the corner!

I’ll admit I have been a little off my game for a few months. Knee surgery in April completely derailed my frisbee game. Now that it’s July 25th, exaclty one month until I turn 65, I’m ready to get “Back On The Plan” Gonna get serious! Anyone else feel the need to get serious?

Real Life Real Fitness

Here’s the thing. Health is a lifestyle. Yes, there are so many things you can’t control. So, we’re going to put those aside for now.

Time to focus on what you do have control over.

  1. Nutrition (What and how much you eat)
  2. Activity (Exercise)
  3. Mental health (Coping skills)

That’s why I believe that

FITNESS

Is comprised of

F-unctional

I-ntegrative

T-raining

And

N-utrition

E-xercise

S-upport

S-ystem

That’s where I come in. Without a support system for your fitness, you are on your own. If that’s working for you the I say more power to you. If it’s not, then why not make some changes?

I will make sure you get in better shape. I guarantee it.

Give me 10 sessions and you will see and feel the difference.

Fitness is my game. My life. My domain.

2 22 22

Two crazy! Two months. Two different angles. 3 months shy of three years since my total shoulder replacement. First time I’ve been willing to show my body from the left side. Check out that wicked scar!

That’s all. Just checking in. Life is good. One day at a time. Getting through the day is an inside job. If you take care of the inside, it all falls into place. Or not. And you deal with it. 2/22/2022 Another day in the life. A day in your life. Make the most of it. Stay fit. Physically and mentally. Exercise your right to a happy life. February 2022.

Cool down! No equipment needed

Don’t forget to stretch! Even though we’re not as active as we’d like, it’s still important to stretch. It helps you relax and de-stress. In this difficult time of social distancing, we’re kind of on our own to take care of ourselves. Stretching is one way to loosen up and relax. Take full, deep breaths and let go of tension. 10 minutes a day will change your life!

Full Body, 5 Tabatas, 20 Minutes

This is a sample of the workout I put together today. Since we can’t go to the gym, we’ve got to work out at home. Here is an edited version of my 20 minute workout today. I just didn’t want you to have to watch every 20 second round for 20 minutes. But I assure you I didn’t stop for 20 minutes. What a great workout!

I didn’t realize how dark it was until I was 2 Tabatas in.

Push/Pull Tabata-Full Body Workout

So Here we are Fantone Fitness fitness buffs! This is a Tabata drill designed to work the upper body. Because we’re using the TRX and Bosu ball, we get the added value of an excellent core workout!

The Year of the Shoulder

Another 12 week challenge complete! I managed to drop 12 pounds and 3.5% body fat in 12 weeks. This year is especially important because it’s “The Year of the Shoulder” I’m 60 and I’m finally going to bite the bullet and get that long delayed shoulder operation. I’m going in fit and ready for a strong recovery. Here’s me at 140 pounds and 8.5% body fat! Wooohooo!

60 Is The New Sexy! 6 Months away and One month into 2018

Soooo, here I am again with “60 is the New Sexy” Why? Because I am a positive thinking person who knows how important attitude is to health and fitness. I hear many people moaning about getting older and I like to take the opposite approach. I look forward to getting older!! Wooohooo!!! I am just choosing to look at life as a beautiful experience that includes all of its ups and downs, ins and outs along with its beautiful potential to learn and grow.

I am an evolving human being. All that means is I am willing to learn and grow. My mind is not made up. I am open to change. I like change. Change is good. TMI?

So I believe that 60 is the new sexy! Older than me? How about, “70 is Heavenly?”

Or, “80 is great-y” You get the point, right.

60 is the New Sexy. And 59 is Fine!

It’s time to get “Back on the Plan” If you know me at all, you’ve heard me say that over and over. That’s because 90 percent of the time I eat clean. There are a couple of times during the year when I go off the plan and eat what I call junk food. For me this means cookies and ice cream, pumpkin pie and cake. If I ate like this all the time I think I would be very unhappy. I don’t eat like this because I want to feel good and look good. I believe that as one gets older one can still look good. That’s why I intend to continue to exercise and eat well. I plan on looking good when I hit 60! It’s just 7 months away.

This first photo is from just before Christmas. I was eating clean and felt good!

Pre Christmas Weigh in

Pre Christmas weigh in. 140 lbs-9.5% body fat

The second photo was taken on January 2nd after I had my yearly holiday binge. I wanted to document my weight and body fat to help me stay on track and to motivate me to stay fit and healthy.

January 2nd Back on the Plan

January 2nd. Back on the Plan 149 lbs.-11.4% body fat

So here we go! Back on the plan! If you would like to learn more about how to change your habits and change your health and appearance, I encourage you to reach out to me or any personal trainer and invest in yourself. You will feel better and look better too. Fitness is a lifestyle.

60 is The New Sexy

We all know by now that abs are created in the kitchen, not the gym. So don’t over-do it this year living it up on stuffing and pie. Or if your like me, and you wait all year to eat pumpkin pie, then I say live it up for the holiday and get back on the plan right away! Oh yeah and try working out every day!

Abs in the Kitchen

Abs are created in the kitchen!

I don’t exercise!

NOW THAT I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION.

How old are you? You don’t exercise? Say that again! Have you been living in another country?

I am a 58 year old man, living in Manhattan. New York City. United States of America.

I do not follow politics, I’m not religious. I live alone and I like it. So what do I do?

I work out. I stretch and breathe and meditate regularly. I cook and eat healthy foods. I’m still learning the saxophone and guitar. I love to sing. I try to mind my own business. Basically I take care of the only person I am truly responsible for. Me. Selfish? I should hope so.

Did you say you don’t work out? What do you do?

2016 New Year Revolution

Well, I did it! From January 1st through March 25th. That’s exactly 12 weeks of Tabata drills, and Paleo diet. It can be done. I started out at 12.8% body fat and ended up at 8%. I was 148.8 lbs. on January 1st and now I’m hovering at 140 lbs. This morning I was 139.8 lbs.

The first pics are today and following them are some I’ve taken over the last 3 months so you can see the progression.
